BEATING THE ASPHALT - short movie

Franky is a tired man.
He dedicated his entire life to his work, and now, the fatigue has become unbearable.

His semi-trailer truck consuming the asphalt at full speed, our mustached modern hero is engaged in a deadly fight against himself.

In memory of Dominique Lohlé & Marcel Burtin.

While the movie is still in production, here's the unrated, red band trailer.

This short movie is about the people who dedicate their entire life to a task.
Weither it’s a simple mean to an end, a question of survival, or a real passion... that very specific point of focus becomes the very definition of who they are.
But this kind of commitment usually comes with a price, a toll, a sacrifice. As it turns out, the line can get real thin and blurry between dedication and obscession.

When I first wrote this story, I was in grad school, learning animation. I ended up just being completely exhausted, both physically and mentally, while trying to finish my thesis short movie.
And as some sort of coping mechanism, I started trying to find a way to relativize, trying to look at things from a different vantage point... to put myself in someone else’s shoes for a minute... and I started thinking about all those people who were likely much more miserable than I was.
They might not be doing it by choice! They’ve most likely been doing this for much longer than I have too!
And as tired and depressed as I was, it really helped me put things back in perspective and find the strength to try even harder.

This is why this film is a tribute to the people who are trapped on this neverending road. All these working people who support their own personal burdens. Just hustling day after day in the general indifference.
